RESEARCH INTEREST

Our research interests are in proteomics, which is the study of the range of proteins and protein interactions in healthy and diseased cells. Ongoing efforts are directed at evaluating new mass spectrometric and high-throughput protein technologies and developing novel software that integrates genomic and proteomics data and that uses proteomic information to identify genes. Current projects involving DDRCC members include the following: 1.) identification of cohort of proteins that mediate human-bacterial symbiosis (Gordon); 2.) identification of protein differences that distinguish pathogenic Entamoeba histolytica from nonpathogenic Entamoeba dispar (Stanley); identification of serum diagnostic and classification biomarkers in infants with biliary atresia (Heuckeroth, Biliary Atresia Research Consortium); proteomic analysis of two types of enteroendocrine cells, one that produces glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide and one that produces chromogranin A (Wice)
